Reflection: Building Your Personal Website

[ENG]

My personal site runs on WordPress.com with the student plan, which our university provided. That made the hosting decision pretty easy: I didn’t have to compare options or worry about paying for or setting up a server. On top of that, we set it up in class with our teacher’s help, which made getting started a lot smoother.

Even with that support, some things were tricky. At first the dashboard felt a bit overwhelming, with lots of options and menus I didn’t know the purpose of. It also took me a while to figure out how themes work and customize the site the way I wanted without breaking anything. Having our teacher around to ask questions made a big difference.

The biggest thing I learned was the difference between pages and posts: pages are for static content, like an “About me” section, while posts are for updates like this one, organized by date and categories. It seems small, but it really helped me understand how a WordPress site is put together. Excited to keep learning!
